Is it permissible for a woman whose husband has passed away to leave her home for evening studies (general secondary)?

A woman in iddah (definition) (waiting period) due to death or divorce is not permitted to leave her home except out of necessity or need. This is based on what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding a woman leaving to harvest dates, and also based on the report of the women whose male relatives were martyred at Uhud, who wished to spend the night with some of their female companions. Al-Nawawi and Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that a woman in iddah may leave her home for essential needs, such as buying food, selling goods, or spinning yarn, provided she does not spend the night outside her home. Accordingly, a female student or teacher may leave her home for her needs, such as acquiring knowledge or working, provided she returns to spend the night in her home.
