How does a husband adjust the nights among his wives if one of them is absent, and he fears he might give the absent wife her due?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If the wife travels to her family with her consent, the preponderant opinion is that her right to division [of nights] is forfeited for the duration of her travel, because the division is for companionship and the maintenance is for enabling enjoyment, and both become impossible on her part. Accordingly, the husband is not obligated to spend the night away from his other two wives for fear of making up for the third, and even if she has the right to make up, his spending the night alone does not forfeit this right from her, as it does not achieve her interest in his spending the night with her.
