Is it permissible to pray Asr while holding back flatulence in order to catch the congregational prayer, or is it better to delay it until returning home due to embarrassment from performing ablution at the workplace?
Prayer while repelling the two impurities (urine or feces) is unanimously disliked. This includes anything that distracts the heart, such as repelling gas, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There is no prayer in the presence of food, nor when one is repelling the two impurities."
Therefore, one should not abandon congregational prayer or pray while intensely repelling gas that distracts the heart. Rather, one must relieve oneself and then perform ablution for prayer. A large number of employees is not a sufficient excuse to abandon ablution and prayer with the congregation, as ablution does not take a long time. If ablution is difficult and you cannot pray without distraction, then do not pray while repelling gas. Wait until you can pray at home, as long as you pray within the prescribed time.
