Is it prescribed to raise the hands in supplication (Du'a), especially when traveling by plane, car, or train?

Raising the hands in supplication is one of the means by which supplications are answered, regardless of place or time, except in instances where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not raise his hands. Examples include the Friday sermon, except when praying for rain, between the two prostrations, before the tasleem in the final tashahhud (definition), and after the tasleem of the five daily prayers. As for the instances where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did raise his hands, or where there is no mention of him raising or not raising them, the Sunnah (definition) is to raise the hands in supplication, emulating him, peace and blessings be upon him, and because it is one of the means by which supplications are answered. Among the things that prevent a supplication from being answered is consuming unlawful earnings and sustaining oneself with them.
