Is it true that Musa al-Kadhim, grandson of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was killed by Al-Sindi ibn Shahak at the command of Harun al-Rashid? And was Al-Rashid in the right or in the wrong? What is the stance of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah regarding him? Was he righteous, and do we ask Allah to have mercy on him?

We have not found anything to confirm the validity of Al-Kadhim's death. Al-Dhahabi, Ibn Al-Wardi, and Ibn Kathir mentioned his biography and virtues without referring to his death, while Ibn Khaldun used the phrase "it is said," which indicates uncertainty. Although Al-Rashid unjustly imprisoned Al-Kadhim, this does not preclude showing mercy to Al-Rashid and acknowledging his virtues in conquests and love of knowledge, for Islamic law permits praying for a monotheist and supplicating for mercy upon him.
