When someone who is in a state of ritual impurity (junub) performs tayammum, can he lead communal prayers?

If it is permissible for a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) to perform tayammum (definition), then he is required to pray in congregation, and tayammum does not prevent him from doing so. This is supported by the story of Amr ibn al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) when he performed tayammum and led the Companions in prayer while he was junub, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) approved of his action. The validity of tayammum for a junub person is conditional upon his inability to heat water, or if using it would harm him due to illness, or prolong his illness, or delay his recovery.
