Is it true that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, prayed for rain in the mosque on Friday or another day, and then it rained? And what was the prayer in which he supplicated? And does this indicate the impermissibility of combining prayers due to rain?

It has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he performed the prayer for rain (Istisqa') during the Friday sermon, as narrated in the hadith (definition) of Anas ibn Malik in the Sahihayn. In this hadith, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated for rain after a man requested it from him, and then he supplicated for the rain to cease after people complained about its abundance.

However, using this hadith as evidence for the impermissibility of combining the Dhuhr and Asr prayers due to rain is incorrect. This is because the incident occurred on a Friday, and the Friday prayer is not combined with Asr; rather, Dhuhr is combined with it. Furthermore, the argument of those who claim the impermissibility of combining Dhuhr and Asr prayers due to rain, based on Ibn Abbas's hadith "Pray in your dwellings," is not a valid proof, because the mere absence of a reported combination does not mean it did not occur if it was permissible.
