How do I extinguish the fire in my heart, seeing that I have reached this age (28 years old) and am not yet married, even though I became engaged to a girl two years ago, and I am still waiting for the completion of my house?
Calamities are made lighter by the knowledge that they are by the decree of Allah, and that what has befallen a servant could not have missed him, and what has missed him could not have befallen him. This is in accordance with the Almighty's saying: {No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being—indeed that, for Allah, is easy— In order that you not grieve over what has eluded you and not exult over what He has given you. And Allah does not like every self-deluded exultant.} (Al-Hadid: 22-23). Moreover, Allah's decrees flow with His ultimate wisdom and vast mercy. A servant may dislike something, though it is good for him, and may love something, though it is evil for him, as the Almighty says: {But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.} (Al-Baqarah: 216). Contentment with Allah is among the best acts of worship and the highest spiritual stations. Whoever reaches this level lives in bliss and joy, as the Almighty says: {Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer—We will surely cause him to live a good life.} (An-Nahl: 97).
