The question

Is it necessary to raise the hands when performing the takbir for the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw)? And upon recalling with certainty, after the taslim, that a rak'ah or a prostration was missed, should one say the takbir and raise the hands when re-entering the prayer? What is the permissible timeframe for doing so instead of repeating the entire prayer?

The answer

Raising the hands is not required in the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood al-sahw), which consist of two prostrations separated by a sitting, and their form and description are the same as the prostrations of prayer. If one forgets a unit (rak'ah), they should return to it, unless a long period has passed by custom or by leaving the mosque. They should intend to complete it, say the takbeer, and it is recommended to raise their hands.
