What is the ruling on postponing the 'Aqiqah for someone who is able to afford it?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on the aqiqah (definition). Most of them have gone to the opinion that it is a Sunnah (definition), not obligatory, and whoever misses its time does not incur sin. Some of them have gone to the opinion that it is obligatory, and that whoever delays it while being able to perform it incurs sin. The preponderant opinion is that it is a Sunnah, not obligatory, and whoever delays it does not incur sin, but they have missed out on much good. It can be made up for by slaughtering on the fourteenth or twenty-first day.
