What should I say in prayer? Is it permissible to eat chicken and fish that were not slaughtered by a Muslim? How can I repent to Allah and obtain His forgiveness if I miss an obligatory prayer? How do I learn to recite the Quran and the adhkar (supplications) in prayer? Are all seafood permissible?

Firstly: Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim, and asking about what one does not know is praiseworthy.

Secondly: To learn about the description of the prayer and the invocations, refer to question number (10965).

Thirdly: Reciting in prayer in a language other than Arabic is not permissible. Refer to question number (11985). Great care must be taken to learn the Arabic language to perform the prayer, especially Al-Fatiha. This is made easy by learning from a Muslim who recites it well, or from audio recordings of the Holy Quran.

Fourthly: Missing a prayer has two situations: 1. If you missed a prayer unintentionally, such as due to forgetfulness or sleep, then you must make it up immediately upon remembering it, because this is a legitimate excuse. You must also take measures to wake up. 2. If the prayer was missed intentionally, then this is a great sin, and you must make sincere repentance. Scholars differed regarding making up this prayer. The majority of them hold that it should be made up and is valid despite the sin, while some, like Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, preferred the view that it should not be made up and is not valid; instead, one should perform many supererogatory prayers.

Sixthly: All seafood is permissible, based on the Almighty’s saying: (Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food as provision for you).
