The answer

The questioner is advised to sincerely repent and turn to Allah, to resolve to be righteous and committed to the religion, to stay away from sins, and to be keen on honoring and being dutiful to one's parents and obeying them in what is permissible. One should not despair of the acceptance of repentance, nor should one abandon prayer, which is the greatest sin after (associating partners with Allah), and one should seek help through it for guidance. It is recommended to frequently recite the reported supplication: "O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You well," as well as to perform legitimate ruqyahs (spiritual remedies). The statement that the repentance of an alcoholic is not accepted after repeated instances is meant as a deterrent and a warning; repentance is accepted no matter how great the sin, as long as the servant regrets, ceases the act, and resolves not to return to it, and as long as the soul has not reached the throat and the sun has not risen from the west.
