The answer

Closing mosques and suspending prayers and lessons is impermissible, due to the Almighty's saying: "And who is more unjust than one who prevents the mosques of Allah from being remembered therein and strives for their ruin?" However, closing them outside of prayer times for a purpose, such as protecting their equipment from theft, is not blameworthy, if there is no need to keep them open and no harm is feared from their being open. If keeping them open would be gentle towards people, then the is to keep them open. Closing them is disliked because it resembles preventing prayer.
