What is the ruling on closing the mosque an hour or two after 'Isha prayer until Fajr, and leaving the keys with some of the worshippers and students; due to the presence of homeless people and intoxicated individuals in the mosque, and their excessive use of electricity, while some object, arguing that the mosque is the house of Allah and should remain open 24 hours?

The default is for the mosque to remain open so that a Muslim can pray in it at any time, as was the case during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. However, if keeping it open leads to harm, such as committing transgressions or fear for its properties, then it should be closed; because warding off evil takes precedence over achieving benefits.
