Who is authorized to call the Adhan for prayer, and is there a specific person designated for this task?

It is not a condition that the muezzin be a specific person; rather, the obligation of the adhan (definition) is fulfilled if any Muslim calls to prayer. It is a condition for the muezzin to be a Muslim, sane, and male. The adhan of a disbeliever, an insane person, or a woman is not valid. It is recommended for the muezzin to have a pleasant voice, be trustworthy, just, knowledgeable of the prayer times, and an adult. If a mosque has a regular muezzin, no one is permitted to call the adhan in his place without his permission.
