Is it permissible to apply short, colorless artificial nails to avoid biting natural nails?

The application of artificial nails is permissible in cases of genuine necessity, such as for someone who has lost their nails. They must be removed for ablution (wudu') and ritual bathing (ghusl (definition)) if doing so does not involve hardship or harm. However, applying them for cosmetic purposes is not permissible, as it constitutes altering Allah's creation, deception, and fraud, in addition to the harm it entails. If there is another legitimate means to prevent harm, then they should not be applied. But if no other means exists, then there is no objection to their use to prevent harm, while striving for a cure.
