Is it permissible to bathe in the pilgrim's country before reaching the Miqat instead of bathing at the Miqat, especially for children, due to the cold water at the Miqat?
Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on performing (ritual bath) for if it is not possible:
- The Hanafis, Malikis, and one narration from the Hanbalis are of the view that ghusl is waived and not replaced by (dry ablution). Rather, tayammum for ihram is only performed if a person is in a state of minor ritual impurity and intends to pray.
- The Shafi'is and the dominant view among the Hanbalis are of the view that it is recommended to perform tayammum instead of ghusl for someone who cannot find water or is unable to use it. - Based on this, it is not valid to perform ghusl in one's country and then enter ihram at the for a traveler by land or sea. However, for air travel, there is no harm if the journey is direct without any separation.
