The question

What is the ruling on my prayers and fasting in Rajab and Sha'ban, and what do I owe if they were invalid, knowing that my monthly period is 7 or 8 days, and in Rajab and Sha'ban the bleeding continued for longer than that, and I was not certain of the sign of purity?

The answer

A woman performs (ritual bath) after menstruation upon seeing one of two signs: dryness (jufūf) or the white discharge (al-qaṣṣah al-bayḍā’). Yellowish and brownish discharges connected to the blood are considered part of menstruation. It is not permissible to perform ghusl until the blood, along with any attached yellowish or brownish discharge, has ceased. The appearance of white discharges thereafter does not pose a problem. If a woman performs ghusl before ensuring purity, she is not required to make up the prayers she performed after her ghusl and before seeing the sign of purity. This is based on acting upon a less preferred opinion after the event has occurred and rectification becomes difficult, although making them up is more precautionary.
