Is it permissible to shave the beard in order to wear an N95 mask for protection against viruses while dealing with patients, given that the mask does not fit properly with a beard?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is permissible for someone dealing with patients infected with contagious diseases to trim his beard so that he can wear a mask properly to prevent the transmission of infection. This is because obligations are waived due to an excuse, and harm is to be removed Islamically, and because "necessities permit the forbidden" and "necessity is estimated according to its true extent."
