Is it permissible to trim nails on specific days to avoid accidents?

The period of not trimming nails should not exceed forty days. It is recommended to attend to these practices on Friday, based on the hadith (definition) narrated by Anas and found in Muslim: "A time limit was set for us concerning trimming the mustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hair, and shaving the pubic hair; that we should not leave them for more than forty days." Imam Shafi'i and his companions explicitly stated the recommendation of trimming nails on Friday. Some say Thursday, and others say one can choose. However, no specific day for clipping nails has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him.
