The hair in front of the ear (al-‘idhar) is part of the face and must be washed. Similarly, the hair on the cheeks (al-‘aridhayn), which extends to the chin on both sides, is part of the beard and must be washed. As for the hair adjacent to the top of the ear (the temple hair), it is part of the head and is wiped with it. The boundaries of the head begin from the usual hairline.
