Is the impurity of domestic cat urine and feces different, and have any scholars ruled them to be pure, mentioning their names and texts?
Most scholars have affirmed that the urine and droppings of animals whose meat is not permissible to eat are impure (najis), but there is a difference of opinion.
Al-Bukhari held the view that the urine of animals whose meat is not permissible to eat is not impure, and that impurity is restricted to human urine. He based this on the about dogs that used to urinate, come, and go in the mosque during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and nothing was sprinkled (to purify it). Al-Sha'bi, Ibn 'Ulayyah, and Dawud also adopted this opinion.
Al-Shawkani believed that the conclusive stance regarding urine and droppings is to restrict impurity to human urine and feces, and the droppings (dung of horses, mules, and donkeys).
As for cats, the Hanafis have excused the urine and droppings of cats and mice on clothes and similar items when there is a clear necessity, and this is the they adhere to. Some Malikis also hold that cat urine is not impure, as they do not consider its meat forbidden to eat.
The aim is to establish the existence of differing opinions regarding the urine and droppings of all animals whose meat is not permissible to eat, especially those that are difficult to guard against, such as cats. In the case of the questioner, the default is purity (tahara), and one should not deviate from it except with established proof or truthful information. Thus, a ruling of impurity should only be made based on observation or valid information, not on mere conjecture or delusions.
