Is it permissible to wipe over khuffayn if they do not cover the ankles, contrary to what the four madhhabs have unanimously agreed upon?

The four madhhabs (schools of thought) agreed that one of the conditions for wiping over the khuff (leather socks) is that they must cover the area of obligatory washing (the ankles along with the feet). If they do not cover the ankles, wiping over them is not valid. There is a difference of opinion on this issue, as some scholars, like Ibn Hazm and Al-Awza'i, permitted wiping over the khuff even if they were below the ankles, while the jurists of the four madhhabs forbade it. The agreement of the four madhhabs is not considered a binding consensus.
