The answer

Al-Nawawi reported the consensus of Muslims on the obligation to venerate the Quran, declare it transcendent, and protect it. The majority of jurists disliked writing the Quran in places where it might be dishonored, and they forbade writing it in places where it is actually dishonored, such as rugs and carpets. This includes walls, due to the potential for dishonor if the wall collapses, or if one leans against it, or stretches one’s legs towards it. Jurists have agreed on the prohibition of using a mus'haf as a pillow and the dislike of stretching one’s legs towards it, all of which indicates the necessity of protecting the Quran from any disrespect. In summary, it is preferable to avoid writing the Quran on walls or hanging its verses on them, out of veneration for it and to protect it from disrespect.
