How many are the bearers of the Throne of the Most Merciful, and who will bear it after the blowing of the Trumpet and the death of all creatures?

The carriers of the Throne are mentioned in the Holy Quran in the verse: "And your Lord’s Throne will be borne above them on that Day by eight [angels]." [Quran 69:17] And one of them was described by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as: "I have been granted permission to speak about an angel from the angels of Allah, one of the carriers of the Throne. The distance between his earlobe and his shoulder is the journey of seven hundred years." As for their current number and who will carry the Throne after them, nothing authentic has been reported concerning this. The different sayings in books of tafsir (definition) regarding their number and descriptions do not have authentic chains of narration. And it is not necessary that the Throne be carried after them, for Allah is capable of keeping it unsupported. It is sufficient to believe in these matters in general, and there is no need to detail them.
