Ibn Jarir al-Tabari's and Ibn Kathir's Tafsir are among the commentaries that focus on narrations (athar), while the commentaries of al-Qurtubi, Ibn al-Arabi, and al-Jassas are concerned with legal rulings (fiqh). The commentaries of Abu al-Su'ud and Abu Hayyan are considered linguistic tafsirs.
