The answer

The scholars of Qira'at (recitations) have conventionally named the master of a recitation a "Qari" (reciter), and the one who takes from him directly or indirectly a "Rawi" (transmitter). The one who takes from the Rawi until our present day is called a "Tariq" (path). Today, approximately one thousand mutawatir (mass-transmitted) paths are well-known. For Nafi', one hundred and forty-four paths are well-known through his two Rawis, Qalun and Warsh. Of these, thirty-four paths are from Qalun through Abu Nashit, and forty-nine paths through Al-Hulwani. From Warsh, thirty-five paths are through Al-Azraq, and twenty-six paths through Al-Isbahani. The difference between these paths might be in a single letter, or in the fatha of a letter, or its imalah (tilting), or taqlil (reducing).
