The majority of scholars hold that verse 240 of Surat Al-Baqarah is abrogated by verse 234 of the same . This should not be surprising, as the arrangement of the is not according to the order of revelation. The Qur’an was revealed all at once to the lowest heaven, then revealed piecemeal. If it were arranged according to the order of revelation, Surat Al-Alaq would be first, yet it is in the last part of the Mushaf.
