Is it permissible to recite the Holy Qur’an from smartphone applications for a person in a state of major ritual impurity due to sexual intercourse (junub), and is it permissible for a menstruating woman or a woman in postpartum bleeding to recite it? And is it permissible to recite the Holy Qur’an—whether from the Mushaf or from smartphone applications—without ablution if the person is ritually pure?

A person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) is not permitted to recite the Qur'an at all, whether reading from a phone or otherwise. However, some scholars permit them to recite a small amount for protection (ta'awwudh) and similar purposes. As for a person in a state of minor ritual impurity (one who has not performed ablution), they may recite as much of the Qur'an as they wish, whether from a phone or otherwise, but they are not permitted to touch the Mus'haf (the physical copy of the Qur'an). It is preferable for recitation to be performed in a state of purity.
