What is the ruling on hanging a list with the names of those committed to donating for the construction of the mosque, and marking monthly those who have paid, with the intention of encouraging people to commit, and what is the ruling on hanging it inside the mosque door, from the perspective of showing off?

Contributing to the construction of mosques is one of the most noble deeds and greatest in reward, and it is a continuous charity (sadaqah (definition) jariyah). It is permissible to display charitable advertisements in the mosque, such as announcing Hajj and Umrah (definition) campaigns, as mentioned by Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, unlike advertisements for worldly matters, which are only permissible on the exterior wall of the mosque. As for ostentation (riya'), it depends on the donor's intention: if he intends it purely for the sake of Allah, then displaying his name has no effect; but if he intends for people to see it, then that is riya', which invalidates the deed. It is preferable to avoid hanging a list of donors' names inside the mosque, to prevent ostentation and showing off. Donations can be collected through other methods, such as placing a collection box or having the Imam remind people of the importance of donating.
