The answer

Commercial insurance, of all types, is forbidden. The program your deceased brother subscribed to falls under this forbidden insurance.

If the insurance is forbidden, then the insured person should only take back from the insurance company what he paid in premiums. The remainder of the amount paid by the company should be considered as follows:

- The amount paid by the deceased brother should be added to his estate and belongs to his heirs. They may permit its expenditure on building a mosque. - Any amount exceeding the paid premiums, if it can be returned to the insurance company, should be returned to it. Otherwise, it should be spent on the welfare of Muslims, such as building mosques. This is considered a purification from ill-gotten gains, not a charity on behalf of the deceased.

The Permanent Committee has issued a stating that commercial insurance is forbidden, and that the injured party may take back what he paid to the company, and the rest should be given as charity to the poor or spent on charitable causes.
