What is the ruling on slaughtering a cow on Eid al-Adha with the intention of it being an Udhiyah and an 'Aqiqah for a boy and a girl, by dividing it into sevenths (one-seventh for the girl, two-sevenths for the boy, and four-sevenths as Udhiyah), knowing that no 'Aqiqah has been performed for them for ten years?

Scholars differed regarding the permissibility of dividing a single cow for both Udhiyah (definition) (sacrifice) and Aqiqa (sacrifice for a newborn). The Hanafis and Shafi'is permitted it, while the Hanbalis absolutely forbade it, stipulating that for Aqiqa, a full cow is required for a single newborn.

The more preponderant opinion is that sharing in Aqiqa is not permissible, due to the absence of any transmitted allowance for sharing in it, and because it is a ransom for the newborn. Therefore, it must be a life for a life, meaning a complete cow or a complete sheep. Accordingly, sacrificing a cow for both Udhiyah and Aqiqa for two children is not sufficient. The best for Aqiqa are sheep: two sheep are sacrificed for a boy and one sheep for a girl. As for Udhiyah, it can be from camels, cows, or sheep. The best is camels, then cows (if sacrificed whole), then sheep.
