The question

How can I reconcile between my first wife, who rejects the idea of polygyny and demands either a divorce or the divorce of the second wife, and my second wife, who will be severely harmed psychologically and socially if divorced, knowing that I made a mistake in how I handled the situation from the beginning?

The answer

It is recommended to keep both wives and treat them kindly and justly, showing kindness and patience towards the first wife and avoiding provoking her jealousy. The wife must be patient and not demand the divorce of the other wife, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is not lawful for a woman to ask for the divorce of her sister to empty her plate, for she only has what has been decreed for her." She must be careful not to destroy her home because of jealousy, for divorce is the destruction of the family and deprives children. A man marrying another woman is not considered injustice or ill-treatment, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married other women in addition to his wives, and he was the best of people to his family. He married other women in addition to Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who was the most beloved of people to him.
