What is the ruling of Sharia concerning a dispute with my neighbor who opened a new door to his house in a narrow passageway that my family and I use as the sole access to the public street, even though he has an alternative, which is his old door, and this has caused us distress and inconvenience?

If the door made by the neighbor overlooks his neighbor's house, then it is not permissible and must be removed. If it does not, then scholars have differed on its permissibility and prohibition. The default is permissibility unless it causes harm or annoyance to the neighbors. If the matter is subject to dispute, then the Sharia (definition) judge is the one who resolves the dispute, and the neighbor has the right to present his case to the judiciary to remove the harm from him. The right of the neighbor is great in Islam, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoined good treatment of him.
