Are God and His Messenger guardians of one who has been abandoned by everyone, even his parents, and lives alone in an orphanage? And is it permissible for a Muslim to supplicate to God Almighty by invoking His attribute as a Guardian, and how can one supplicate to the Messenger by invoking his attribute as a guardian without associating partners with God?

(Walayah) — guardianship or close friendship — is affirmed for Allah regarding the believers, and its meaning is love and nearness. It is attained through faith and piety. Among its fruits are bringing them out of darkness into light and removing fear and sorrow from them. It is permissible to supplicate Allah using the attribute "Al-Wali" (The Protector/Guardian), as Yusuf (peace be upon him) did, and as mentioned in Surat Al-A'raf (7:196), and by naming Him "Mawlana" (Our Master/Protector) in Surat Al-Baqarah (2:286), for "Al-Mawla" is "Al-Wali" in the sense of the Helper. The Walayah of the Messenger for the believers is also affirmed, and its evidence is His (Allah's) saying: (Indeed, your protector is Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed). The Walayah of the Prophet is attained by obeying him, following his Sunnah (definition), and supporting him, not by supplicating him after his death. The servant's neediness and brokenness before Allah necessitate Allah's companionship, closeness, and mercy. The believer should have a good opinion of Allah and endure trials in this world with patience.
