The question

How authentic are the two hadiths which mention that two covetous people are never satiated: a seeker of knowledge and a seeker of worldly possessions; and that for whoever makes the Afterlife his main concern, Allah will make richness in his heart, and for whoever makes the world his main concern, Allah will place poverty between his eyes?

The answer

The first : "Two greedy people are never satisfied: a seeker of knowledge who is never satisfied, and a seeker of worldly possessions who is never satisfied." It was narrated by Al-Hakim, who authenticated it, and Al-Dhahabi agreed with him. It was also narrated by Al-Darimi as mawquf from Al-, and Husain Asad said: "Its chain of narration is sound to Al-Hasan." The authenticity of the latter part is supported by similar narrations in Al-Bazzar, Al-Tabarani, Ibn Hibban, and Al-Tirmidhi, and Al-Albani authenticated them.
