Al-Subki was born in Safar 683 AH, and he studied jurisprudence under his father. Rashid ibn Abi al-Qasim and Ismail ibn al-Tabbal granted him ijaza from Baghdad. The Huffaz Abu al-Hajjaj al-Mizzi, Abu Abdullah al-Dhahabi, and Abu Muhammad al-Barzali heard from him. Al-Dhahabi mentioned him in Al-Mu'jam al-Mukhtas as: "The Judge, the Imam, the Allamah, the Jurist, the Hadith Scholar, the Hafiz, the Pride of Scholars, Taqi al-Din Abu al- al-Subki, then al-Masri al-Shafi'i."
