What is the ruling regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him) before Islam, and was he upon the religion of the Hanifiyyah or polytheism?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was not a polytheist. Rather, he worshipped according to the religion of Abraham, the upright monotheism. It is reported that he used to seclude himself in the Cave of Hira to engage in tahannuth (worship), a narration where the letter fa has been replaced by tha, or it means avoiding sin.
