How do we reconcile the Hadith of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "(Take it: if something of this wealth comes to you when you are neither looking forward to it nor begging for it, then take it; otherwise, do not let your heart hanker after it)," and the Hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) rejection of a wool mattress, and his saying: "(Return it, O Aisha, for by Allah, if I wished, Allah would make mountains of gold and silver flow with me)"?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided towards accepting wealth that was not supervised nor requested. He used to accept gifts and reward for them, and this is considered praiseworthy by the majority of scholars.

As for the hadith (definition) of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, rejected the wool mattress gifted by the Ansari woman, and his saying: "By Allah, O Aisha, if I wished, Allah would make mountains of gold and silver flow with me," its chain of narration is weak due to the weakness of Mujalid ibn Saeed.

This weak hadith cannot stand in opposition to the Prophet's practice of accepting gifts.
