The answer

We have not found a with this exact wording. However, a Hadith condemning the prolongation of hope was narrated by Al-Bukhari on the authority of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a square, then a line in its middle extending outside of it, and small lines extending towards the middle line. He explained that the square represents the lifespan encompassing a person, the line extending outside is his hope, and the small lines are the afflictions that may befall him.
