Is there a bewildered soul that feels disquiet and rejects death before its arrival?

We do not know of a soul that inherently dislikes death. Rather, a believer may dislike death with a natural, blameless aversion, as mentioned in the hadith (definition) of 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "When a believer is given glad tidings of Allah's mercy, he loves to meet Him, and when a disbeliever is given tidings of His punishment, he dislikes to meet Him." Scholars have divided the dislike of death into two types: a natural, blameless aversion, and a blameworthy aversion that indicates weakness of faith, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called "wahn" (feebleness) in the hadith of Thawban: "love of the world and dislike of death." It is religiously commendable to remember death frequently and to take heed from it.
