The answer

The illiteracy of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is a perfection in his right and a miracle, because it refuted the suspicion of the doubters. Allah Almighty says: "And you did not recite before it any scripture, nor did you inscribe it with your right hand. For then the falsifiers would have had [cause for] doubt." (Al-Ankabut: 48). Therefore, he, peace and blessings be upon him, neither wrote nor read before the revelation of the Quran nor after it. This is the preponderant view and the opinion of the majority of scholars.
