The question

Is it permissible for my sister to travel on a mandatory four-day university academic trip to collect desert samples, attend lectures, and receive practical training, knowing that she is without a mahram, and that 50 marks of her year's work depend on it? Does her commitment permit travel without a mahram given the current circumstances? Is travel permissible if the supervisors are considered like fathers? And is it sufficient for her to be armed with the thought that protects her?

The answer

Your sister must have a accompany her on her travel for studies, and it is not permissible for her to travel without him. It does not matter if the mahram's lodging is in a different place than hers, provided that she does not fall into other prohibited acts. Studying sciences is not a necessity that permits committing prohibited acts, nor is it an individual obligation.
