The question

Will a person whose marriage is delayed due to their inability to afford it be rewarded, while others married early and were provided with means of protection (from sin)? Is there a wisdom behind preferring some people who lived and prayed in the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram), where one prayer equals 100,000 prayers elsewhere, thus making their good deeds more numerous?

The answer

Marriage and other life matters are predestined by Allah. A Muslim must exert effort [in pursuing them]. Calamities are good for the believer if he shows patience and seeks reward from Allah. Allah has commanded lowering the gaze and warned against the temptation of women. When Allah withholds from His believing servant, it is a gift, and when He afflicts him, it is a healing, as stated by Allah the Almighty: (And perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you). A servant's love for the Sacred Mosque and his longing to worship in it can be attained through sincere intention and truthful will, for the intention to do good deeds is recorded as a complete good deed for its doer, even if he does not perform it.
