How sound is what Ikrimah mentioned in Al-Baghawi’s Tafsir, that Gabriel (peace be upon him) entered upon Mary (peace be upon her) while she was bathing after menstruation and was unclothed?

The chain of transmission for this narration, which states that Maryam bathed after menstruation when Gabriel came to her, has not been verified. Even if its chain of transmission were authentic, it might be from the Israʼiliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions). A number of commentators have leaned towards the interpretation that she secluded herself for worship, which is more probable. This is because angels are honored and address the righteous servants of Allah in pure places, just as they addressed Zachariah in his prayer sanctuary.
