Is reducing the weight of subsidized bread below the legally specified weight (250 grams) considered permissible (halal) or a form of short-weighing (tatfif), especially with the rising costs of materials and labor and the fixed selling price?
The act of bakery owners reducing the weight of bread without declaration is religiously forbidden, constituting deceit and short-weighing, which is prohibited by Allah's saying: "Woe to those who shortchange! Those who, when they take a measure from people, take in full, but when they give them a measure or a weight, they cause them loss." It is obligatory to adhere to the agreed-upon weight. If a project requires engaging in forbidden acts, it must be abandoned, and one should seek a permissible project, for "whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better," and "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
