The answer

It is from Allah Almighty's mercy that He legislated for His servants acts of supererogation and voluntary worship, such as prayer, fasting, charity, and Hajj, to compensate for any deficiencies in obligatory acts. If there is a deficiency in a servant's obligatory act, Allah looks to see if they have any voluntary acts, which then complete what was deficient in the obligatory act. As for Hajj, whose reward is diminished by obscenity (rafath), transgression (fusooq), and argumentation (jidaal): if obscenity (rafath) refers to sexual intercourse, then it invalidates Hajj. However, if obscenity (rafath) does not invalidate Hajj, along with transgression (fusooq) and argumentation (jidaal), then these diminish the reward of Hajj and prevent the pilgrim from receiving the promised reward, while Hajj itself remains valid as long as no invalidating act has been committed.

The accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur) is one in which there is no obscenity, no transgression, and no argumentation. It is performed with humility and brokenness before Allah, drawing near to Him through acts of obedience, and refraining from sins. Its reward is nothing less than Paradise.
