Is it sunnah to fast the day of the Prayer for Rain (Istisqa’) and three days prior to it? And does the Imam deliver the sermon for the Prayer for Rain at the prayer area (musalla) or from the minbar? And is it one sermon or two? And is it sunnah to raise the hands and how is it done when supplicating during the sermon? And when is the cloak (rida’) turned inside out, and does it remain so until returning home? And what do they do after the sermon? And does the Imam supplicate aloud or silently? And how long does the supplication last? And is the Prayer for Rain repeated if it does not rain?

Fasting before the Istisqa' (rain-seeking) prayer is prescribed, and it is recommended to go out to the open desert. As for the sermon, the indicates that it should be delivered from the minbar (pulpit), and jurists differ on whether it is one sermon or two. It is recommended for both the Imam and the congregants to raise their hands in supplication. The Imam supplicates, and the congregants say Ameen. It is recommended for both the Imam and the congregants to turn their cloaks inside out, and the cloaks should remain turned until they remove their garments. The Istisqa' prayer is repeated if rain does not fall.
