What is the ruling on daily quarrels or divorce, and what is the fate of a daughter with a mother who does not maintain prayer, does not fast, and instigates problems, bearing in mind that the husband beats her severely to the point of unconsciousness, her family refuses her return to them, he does not have money to buy another house, and he threatens divorce?

Divorce is not recommended; rather, it is advisable to strive to reform the wife as a sister, so that she may feel companionship and love. This should be accompanied by providing her with fatwas regarding abandoning prayer, fasting, and disobedience, and counseling her and reminding her of Allah through admonition. She should be made to listen to beneficial tapes and given influential books. The husband should also undertake the legitimate means of rectification, such as admonition, abstention from marital relations (hajr), and non-violent striking when absolutely necessary.
