What is the ruling on the fast of those who work in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, given the possibility of them inhaling some powder or alcohol during the manufacturing process?

Those who are working must fast in Ramadan (definition), and it is not permissible for them to break their fast. They must preserve their fast from anything that invalidates it. The fasting person is forbidden from exaggerating in sniffing water up the nose (istinsḥāq) for fear that something might enter the internal cavity. If a worker inhales some vapor, the ruling on their fast depends on whether it entered by their choice, whether it has a physical mass or is merely an odor, and whether it reached their throat or not. The default is the validity of the fast, so it should not be ruled invalid except with known proof.
